Liverpool B&B's and guest houses are just the places to stay if you are visiting Liverpool to check out the legendary Beatles or, for that matter, Gerry and the Pacemakers or Billy Fury.

But there's more to Liverpool than the memory of the culture or imagery of that time when Liverpool was known around the world for the sounds of the sixties!

There are, for example, some of the best galleries and museums of any major city anywhere in the world outside of capital cities.

There are plenty of listed buildings to see, more in fact, than anywhere outside London and the architecture is certainly world-class.

There are loads of things to do in Liverpool and the choice is quite staggering, with sport, arts, culture, theatres, shopping and the waterfront to enjoy.

The shopping experience deserves a trip in it's own right so if you are up for a bit of retail therapy, Liverpool has it in abundance. Plenty of stores and fashionable boutiques to tempt you so prepare your credit or debit card for some strenuous shopping trips!

Your days out should include visits to the Mersey Coast and countryside to admire some of the beautiful parks and gardens where you can see, amongst many other things, the endangered Red Squirrel. The largest herd of African elephants in the UK is at Knowsley Safari Park. If time permits, you could plan a short stay or weekend break at a bed and breakfast or guest house in this area to do it justice.

Liverpool is not just about music and football! The area actually includes green fields and woodlands, too, so if you want to combine the excitement of a modern city with the delights of the countryside, the Liverpool region is the place for you.

It's impossible to talk about this part of Britain without mentioning football because two of the best known teams in the world have their grounds just a few minutes from the centre of Liverpool.

The first official Grand National was run in 1839 and today it's held at Aintree (long before the Beatles were even a twinkle!) and known as the toughest horse race in the world. Liverpool bed and breakfasts can be found within a mile or two of the race course at Aintree. Racing is also held at Haydock Park where flat and jumping fixtures are scheduled throughout the year.

When it comes to eating out in Liverpool, you will again be spoiled for choice! The diversity of the type of food available is quite amazing with a diversity of food that does the city proud. If you want traditional British food or afternoon tea you will not be disappointed but food from other countries is also available with cooking from the Caribbean, China, India, Italy and France to delight your pallet.

If, at the end of your stay, you still have not found anything to do with the Beatles, or if you have not actually walked over Penny Lane zebra crossing, perhaps you should return to Liverpool before long and experience some of the pop culture the city is still best known for!!
