When you're getting ready for your holidays you can normally prevent most mishaps such as making sure you keep everyone's passport's together, you can set off early to make sure you get to the airport on time and you can even check in over the internet the day before to decrease the amount of time spent waiting around in queues. That's exactly what happens every day for the odd flight in some countries, but yesterday there were an extreme amount of cancellations at London's Stansted airport but there was no mention in the news that pilots had gone on strike and this time it wasn't a case of the airline going bust either. In this case the reason was protestors camped out on the runway!
The activist group Plane Stupid broke into the airport in the early hours and some had chained themselves to fences, eventually the group were removed and detained by police but the damage was already done by the time the runway was cleared. A massive backlog of flights began building up and meant many people looking to jet away for some winter sun elsewhere were left queuing at the terminal.
